I hate to run...

but yet, I've started to. Something about still trying to shed those last couple pounds left over from you know who. I keep waiting for me to start to like running, but I don't. It's awful. Not gonna lie. Won't even pretend that I enjoy it.
However, on a more positive note from this negative attitude, I decided that I needed to have something to work towards or else I'm less motivated. So I decided to try a 5K, and I did one this morning!

At the starting line. I migrated to the back...no need to draw attention to myself.

Here's the proof I finished alive and well...see, I don't even have the proper running attire. My time was a couple minutes faster than I have been doing. It must have been the adrenaline plus the other runners that helped. Sadly, I did not finish ahead of the old man in his really short running shorts and no shirt. He took 1st place and I think I actually doubled his time. Who knew you can run it with a time in the teens. They said this was his 1200th 5K run, so I let him have the glory of the win this race. Next time, old man! Next time! The turn-around point of the run was right near a Kohls, and I was tempted to stop and shop. Doesn't that sound a lot more fun?

Here is part of my cheering section, minus Scott taking the pictures. ok...so he wasn't really cheering...but I'll take what I can get.

And last, what's a good post without pictures of this guy! Tyson weighed in at 34 lbs 10 oz. and was 37 1/2 inches tall at his last 18 month appointment. I looked up my stats in my babybook and was 34 inches at the same height, so needless to say, he'll be taller than me! He's in nursery now (Hip Hip Hooray!) and doing really well. This kid loves to play.
This is his classic dance pose. Fingers up and moves around. Learned these moves from his mama! He thought it was fun to play in his old bouncy seat and push the music button.

He fell asleep on the carpet watching his favorite movie as of now which is Open Season (the one with the bear and the deer). When he wants to watch it, he says, "Roar!" and I know he means the bear movie. This kids loves his blanket. He's a cute little guy!

Visitors!

Scott's parents came out to visit us last week and it was fun to take them around to all the church history sites. We love having visitors! Here is Scott, Tyson, and his parents outside the Winter Quarters visitor center. We went on the hottest day of the year so far (100 deg...which may not seem to hot to some, but add in the humidity and its a different story). The boys also went golfing that same morning and Laurel (Scott's mom) and I took Tyson to the zoo. It's always good to sweat off a few pounds!
One day we took a day trip down to Kansas City (about 2 1/2 hours away) and saw Liberty Jail, Independence, Far West, and Adam-Ondi-Ahman. Tyson did so good in the car...the trick to keeping him happy the last hour of the drive....rocks! We found some when we stopped for dinner and he wanted to take them with him. We played a game which included hiding the rocks in his carseat, finding them, and then singing a song/dancing when we found the rocks. I apologize to my in-laws for singing the same song over and over in the car ride home! Now he Tyson is obssessed with picking up rocks and bringing them in the house. He will be my boy that bring bugs, dirt, and rocks home in his pocket to show to me. Apparently, I was the child who did that with my mom, so I guess its only fair. Anyways, here he is taking a break from the Independence visitor center tour, to play in the kids room. This kid would run from place to place. He rarely walks...just runs and its fun to see his cheeks jiggle up and down when does!
Scott and his mom at the Adam-ondi-Ahman look out. We've never been there before either so it was a fun stop. Not a whole lot to see but was beautiful.
Their visit seemed to go by fast because we crammed so much in at one time, but we had lots of fun! Thanks for coming out to see us!
(We welcome any and all visitors...)
